Actually to be more specific, Counter Strike was a stand alone addon that a group made before Valve bought them up at Sierra gaming company. It was a free addon that became the most popular internet game out there, and had some competition with Starcraft, and Diablo which dominated the market at the time.

1.0 put it on the map, 1.4/1.5 made it popular! Just some brief history on it!
