Well this is going to start out as a closed beta anyway. So you aren't going to see a big drop on the wL servers anyway. You have to have one of the beta keys that Valve gave out during their events. I didn't make it to one of these events so I didn't get one. The closed beta is going to start out with only 10,000 people and then Valve will start to release more keys to the public slowly until at some point it will become open to everyone.

Same thing I said when I was playing 1.6 and CSS is going to be released.
Now look I'm playing CSS and stopped 1.6.
