did you just compare a scientific fact to a philisophical opinion? evolution is a scientific fact.
Define "scientific fact".

you can't mix philosophy with science, philosophy is worthless ideas used to undeniably counter everyone elses arguments and it's stupid. philosophy is nearly as bad as blind faith.

Leaky Wrote:Philosophy might not always be practical, but it does have a huge influence on our lives and the way we think, it's responsible for democracy, socialism, so called "basic human rights", many elements of modern day science, and many other things associated with modern societies.silly Wrote:Leaky Wrote:I asked you what you meant by fact, because technically the only thing that can be definitively proven as undeniable fact is "cogito ergo sum" (I think, therefore I exist). And you didn't respond to my prompt. How do you define "scientific fact"?
Philosophy already is mixed with science, for example: fallibilism (the tenet that scientific theories cannot be proven, only disproven). If you ever looked at a legitimate scientific experimental report, you would know that the experimenters never use the word "proven". Rather, they write things like "the experiment supported the hypothesis that blah blah blah. This is because science cannot prove a theory beyond the shadow of a doubt.
Philosophy (assuming logic is involved) is not similar to blind faith, it is actually closer to the opposite, thoughtful and rational viewpoint. To dismiss logic, is to dismiss science, and is to make all opinions equally credible.

I can't tell if Leaky is trolling us now... I was with him up to the point where he said philosophy is filth. You realize how much we owe to philosphers?

philosophers have not contributed anything substantial to modern day life. science is all you need, science and proven, verifiable facts. philosophy is filth because they think they can counter facts with "oh yea but really there's no truth other than we are what we think." that's not true, reality exists with or without us, to say that the only real truth is what we think is to say that nothing exists when we aren't observing it, which is wrong and moronic.
also, science does use the word proven, in the scientific community they use the word proven as short hand to "the data supports the theory to 6 9s (99.9999% reliable)". to say that nothing can ever be truly known is foolish. Just because at our current level of understanding of the universe and physics we can't validate everything to 100% doesn't mean we won't ever be able to validate a claim. if you want to be philosophical and existentialist then that's fine but don't throw it around as a shield to ignore supporting evidence. just because gravity is supported to 99.9999% and not 100% doesn't mean it's not there. the same applies to evolution, we have mountains of supporting data, enough to reach or be extremely near that required six 9's benchmark of "fact" so to say it's just an opinion or pull out some philisophical reasoning as to why modern sciences universally accepted as fact understanding of evolution is just unverifiable thoughts is stupid.
also "i think therefor i exist" is a stupid motto in my opinion because it doesn't validate anything. you think there for you exist, well i think that you think therefore i exist but you don't. that motto opens its self up to an infinite loop of unverifiable conditions in which you think but do not exist.
