The 14-year-old suspected of burglarizing a trailer on a campus in the Pasadena Independent School District was wounded by a school district police officer early Tuesday morning, according to police.
Police tell KTRH that the shooting happened just before 1am at the Miller Intermediate School on Fairmont Parkway Near Foxmeadow.
The teen, who is an 8th-grader at the school, was reportedly wounded in the upper chest and rushed to a nearby hospital. He was in critical condition.
The officer was not injured, though he is distraught about the incident.
The officer was apparently responding to an alarm at a portable building on the campus when he spotted the teen coming out of the building’s front door. The teen was clutching a backpack. The officer, a 6-year-veteran with Pasadena ISD, told the teen to stop, but the boy refused. In fear of his safety, Lewis said, the officer fired one shot, hitting the teen.
Police reports show that it appears the boy had broken a window at the building, which activated the alarm. Electronics, such as computers, are in the building.
The school will open for regular hours. Counselors will be on hand for students who want them.
The Pasadena Police Department will investigate the shooting. Pasadena ISD will investigate the apparent burglary.
