anyway i agree that computer literacy(supposing typing speed dictates how proficient one is in that aspect) puts one a step ahead of others in the general workplace.
i've seen some people who are proficient in excel(utilizing pivot tables, formulas etc). Pretty much blown away.

I barely/don't know any young (-35) people who can't type. Not saying they all type like roothacker bison over there, but (almost) all of them can at least somewhat decently.

Used to teach a class at my University about it, and we used pivot tables and it helped out wonderfully for a lot of people.
