Steam keeps a copy of your chat logs on their end for some arbitrary amount of time. If you go to his steam page and report him under "Suspected Hijacker or Phishing" and mention what he was doing in steam chat, then they'll probably suspend his account.

I've reported a few people who tried to scam me for my items. Like fake steam community links.
If you ever trade expensive stuff, always use steam rep to verify to URL before adding people and never add people who ask you to add them on their so called alternate trading account.
