Definitely SSD over HDD right now
Look into Arctic Silver for thermal paste.
That's a great card for starting off, and if you need more processing power in the future, you can always add another.
One of the cool things about AMD graphics compared to NVIDIA is that you can pair ANY AMD GPU from the same generation (ex. the lovely AMD HD 6950 with your 6850) in Crossfire, whereas SLI requires cards with the same GPU (ex. two GTX 570s or two GTX 580s).
