So in other words, you're nice to people who are nice to you, and who have not previously displayed signs of weakness.

@ruplayer: if you equate being truthful and giving credit to someone who deserves it, with asskissing, then sure. But to me they are not interchangeable concepts.

I happened to notice that this was a board for flaming or admiring, and arbitrarily decided that rival needs some positive recognition. That's all.

I don't compliment people for the purpose of receiving their favour. For me, it is a question of principle, and I also try to be a decent person.

But yeah, I can understand how the misconception could have arisen.

In simple terms, I like to pay respect when it is deserved.
