If you wonder why most ancient artwork has been destroyed prior to Christianity, you can also thank Constantine. In the process of building Christianity they went around and destroyed every "pagan" artifact they could find. They essentially waged a war on the existing cultures, that's why thousands of years worth of beautiful, ancient and famous sculptures like Venus de Milo, etc, were smashed into bits and pieces, to protect the mythology of Christianity in order to unify a kingdom under Constantine. The information lost about our history because of these actions is unfathomable, we essentially lost major chunks of human history because of Constantine and others similar to him wanted to push Christianity. They wanted to rewrite history, and did so pretty damn successfully.
