I heard that that(the plague) was one of the theory why the gene mutated into cells which had a strong immunity in european caucasians. Not proven though. Sounds pretty X-Menish. Tell us if you found any superpowers George.:p

Anyway, they found a cure, but the bone marrow transplant option can't be a wide-scale solution. But it gives hope that such a cure is possible.
