Graphics Errors Ingame (CS:S)
#1
Like your server very much , so I thought I try the support forums. Wink

So here goes , I bought  a new HIS Grapic card just before christmas 2011 & I've tried two different Asus monitors with it.
The thing is , if I take any screenshot within windows , it will save normally ,
but what happens when it appears on screen is an image been split & reversed.

Only a complete system shutdown will restore it , a restart leaves the issue ongoing.

Only happens after a while of play like the thing is overheating but this has been going on for months ,
I updated Motherboard BIOS , upgraded & downgraded various video & audio drivers to resolve it , nothing works.

It's like it has insufficient cooling built into the cards design ,Counter Strike Source is the only thing that triggers this error ,
but once it does  it affects the entire o/s as well!

In summer delta temps went as high as 40 degrees celsius , but summer is now finished it 20 degrees celsius & it's still happening.
I pulled a pci tv tuner card out earlier this year to remove excess heat on the card & it stopped till now.

I don't overclock so I know that's not the issue & all parts were purchased retail.
I don't know if I should RMA the card or submit a support ticket with ATI.

Sorry about the number of links , I detailed what I could (used a mobile for photo's).

Thoughts?

I can tell you for sure, Your ASUS motherboard plus ur Intel CPU are perfectly fine & can take excess pressure on the regarding ur PCI peripherals so don't suspect them... but:

In my opinion & based on previous experience, I believe that ATI cards are just overpowered, ATI makes GFX cards to work but not to last in most cases of course, It's has a very good performance I can give you that but it overheats insanely, and even liquid cooling fluid wont help it, I suggest returning your card & if possible replacing it with nVIDIA, I've never had any problems with these cards.

Thanks for your reply , I have been away for easter so I didn't get time to reply before now.
So I need to start an RMA process & get a replacement card?

Is getting an RMA difficult? (never had to before)

Is there a Nvidia card anyone can recommend for around U.S. $200 ?
I'd have to pay shipping to Australia if it's not available locally for a similar price.

My local stores I'd purchase from are probably these.

So what cards do you recommend & will a 750 w PSU be enough to run it?

Happy Easter!  Smile

I had (nVIDIA GeForce 9600GT) 2 years ago, and it still rocks my world with DDR3 cache & 1 GB Memory expanded to 2,3/4 GB after integration with System Memory, I played "BattleField3" on the MAX with it, and it didn't even shiver, It's a very good one, I'm not sure how much it's worth in dollars, But I'm sure it's not that expensive, & if you found that it's cheap for you, I recommend Buying the upgraded version "nVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX", it's more expensive but much more powerful, both have liquid cooling system & internal cooling processor, "You can kiss goodbye your overheating problems".

Update
Installed a nVidia 9400GT I found lying around & will run some tests as soon as I have the time.
Game res wants to run at nvidia card at 1366 x 768 , 1920 x 1080 is my usual ATI res.
RMA'd the 6790 , the store has said approx 4 weeks before I get it back.

I'll update this post when I have more details.

Thanks for your help. Wink
