Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said the student — Tyler Gabriel, 18, of Washington Street — left a cellphone in a gym bag in a changing room at the high school and videotaped a female student. Roebuck said the female student was not fully nude at any time.

Roebuck said he did not have the date the actual filming occurred, but said police were notified Monday by the school.

Long Branch Schools Superintendent Michael Salvatore said school officials “immediately turned the matter over to the Long Branch Police Department,” when they it became aware of it on Monday morning.

Salvatore did not say how they were led to the video, however police have said it’s possible a student may have informed school officials.

“He (Gabriel) may have showed it at school and the girl found out about it,” said Roebuck.

Police initially pulled four students from school for questioning. During the subsequent investigation, it was discovered that only one student was responsible for videotaping and the other three students were released.

Gabriel was charged with invasion of privacy and released on a summons. It has not been ascertained if he has been permitted back to school or if he is facing discipline from the school.

“As this matter involves the privacy rights of students, the Long Branch Board of Education and District Administration cannot comment any further at this time,” Salvatore said.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are continuing to work with the Long Branch Board of Education on this matter. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office was also notified.
