Looked like Sam Bacile tried to pull off a Salman Rushdie. Anyway, found what Roald Dahl said about Rushdie surpringly related to this.

Clearly he has profound knowledge of the Muslim religion and its people, and must have been totally aware of the deep and violent feelings his book would stir up among devout Muslims. In other words, he knew exactly what he was doing and cannot plead otherwise. This kind of sensationalism does indeed get an indifferent book on to the top of the best-seller list, — but to my mind it is a cheap way of doing it.

I am totally against the riots which resulted in the needless deaths of both Libyans and Americans in the US embassy. But yeah, pretty sure Bacile knew what he was doing and what it could lead to.

Lesson learned here: Don't feed the trolls, online and IRL.
