Long term revenues estimate they will not only make up the money but show a profit due to increase tourism over the decade to come. That is the problem with short term, you can't expect to gain money as easy as ABC, and from what my South African friend tells me tourism has increased a lot since the world cup, and those are the numbers you will want to crunch in the end.
Uh no, long term revenues are a failure, they built infrastructure they can't maintain. The last two links illustrate that. This if you build it they will come attitude never work. Do a google check on how helpful the 3rd world benefits from these events. What you will find out is that they don't. Same problem happened in Iraq when the us dumped billions into projects the Iraqis couldn't maintain. All that is left in both cases is abandon'd new structures.
