CS:S Tips, Tricks and Easter Eggs! :)
#1
Post whatever you know about csConfused tips, tricks and hidden stuff here. Smile such as recoil control, bursting, etc. I'll try to post more and more along the way.
This is a CONTRIBUTION thread, so contribute Smile
Upcoming: wall-bang spots, smoke spots, other maps.
I need input on whether or not I'm wasting my time. Smile So comments would be appreciated if i'm actually helping.

To start off...

The annoying CS:S recoil glitch!
After spraying with an ak or m4, possibly other guns too, no matter how long you wait; the next bullet will ALWAYS be inaccurate.
More information can be found here on that glitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1a-zf1DE9k
To fix this glitch, just quick switch.

Peeking!
Alright, it's a 1v1 situation, you have an ak/m4 but he has an awp!
He's watching from the back of the site in B, looking over tunnels to where you are.
You know where he is, and he knows where you are. What do you do?

What not to do:
Jump in there try to 1ak pz him.
What to do:
Do a "fake" peek. Post up right next to the corner, and quickly peek, not to shoot, but to trick the guy into shooting Wink. Many awpers do the mistake of aiming far from the corner, not many people will aim right next to the corner. This will cause him to waste the bullet and then you can peek and try to 1ak him Wink
Or, you can smoke the site, blah blah blah, run in there and own him. :p

I'll do a section on smokes soon.

**I decided not to post up the actual pictures as my post will be way too big! Instead I posted links to photobucket!

***You will NOT always get these smokes perfectly the first time around. It takes practice and some adjustments!

Why smokes?
Smokes are a key part of playing Terrorist side in any de_ map! Smile They render so many spots useless, and people fail to see how useful they are!
I'll give a few "smoke spots" that will render some spots useless for CTs Smile
Starting with Dust2, one of my favorite maps.

Dust2 Smokes

One of the harder sites to take is B in this map. Why? Because you have to go through mid, which is impossible :p and you have to go through tunnels. It's easy for someone in the back of the site to awp you due to the linearity of the hallway. Smile

Okay to start off.
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... okeb-1.png

Do you see that palm tree where I'm aiming? Normally when the round starts, people will jump over the ledge, come down, and head to tunnels.
Well if you aim slightly below the very tip of the highest "palm tree leaf"
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... eeleaf.png
, while jumping over the ledge and throwing the smoke, the smoke will land in the B site like so.

http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... result.png

This renders the "ksharp" spot and the box spots useless! Smile I like to personally play the ksharp spot which is beside the barrels, on the ledge, and crouching. So I would have some trouble.

Now what about those annoying boxes out back?
Well from T spawn, start from here Smile
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... omhere.png
Run up the ledge, aim slightly above the left of the dome, like so..
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... mokeb2.png
Keep in mind this is while jumping.
And the results?
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... esult2.png
Smile completely blinding the guy at the back of the site.

Now for the mid smoke

If anyone decent is awping short from CT middle, then it's unlikely that you will be able to go through into short. Smile
So what do you do? At the start of the round, go here.. And just stay right in the corner, you don't have to move.
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... okemid.png
Aim where I'm at, and throw the smoke.

The results:
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... result.png
Probably an angry ct who can't see anything! Tongue

Smoking Long
One of the most annoying things to deal with while rushing long is the people in pit and the people by the corner watching the doors. One of them will most likely be an awper, so what do you do?
At the start of the round, while you're at T spawn aim towards long, like so
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... elong1.png
Jump, then throw a smoke Smile

The result is this.
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... result.png
As you can see, the person cannot watch the doorway and thus you will only have to worry about pit Wink

Now.. You took pit.
You head towards a platform and find yourself getting awped by linear or myself from mid. What do you do? You simply smoke it like so.
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... result.png

Then you can freely head to a platform and plant You can throw another smoke towards cat if your team hasn't already pushed it.

As you can see, smokes are extremely useful as a terrorist Smile In addition, you can also use them to hide yourself when defusing a bomb as a counter-terrorist. Keep in mind smokes don't make you invulnerable. To counter them, normally people would spam through the smoke. But hey, it's better to have them spray blindly than to have them spray clearly! :]

Dre@M$ Wrote:awp

In de_dust2 if you T you when you spawn. buy a awp and shoot players down the ally THEN camp anywhere .

Flat out terrible strategy. 9/10 times you won't hit anyone, and you risk being shot at by a CT awper in the middle of one of your shots.
Of course, T has the altitude and first sight advantage at double doors against CT awpers, but an above average CT awper would be smart enough to jump around to estimate your position or bait one of his teammates to get a grasp at where you are at and then take you out. If you miss the first shot on the CT awper, you are almost guaranteed to be dead. A good awper can kill you without you even firing a shot on him.

The point of awp in T spawn is to serve as a lookout to see how many CTs cross over to B, and to call out which bombsite to rush.

hidden things about de_cbble map

Do you know when you play as de_cbble CT and when you hear a cow, this means that the enemy is located in a corridor;

Do you know when you play de_cbble as T, and when you hear the llama comb it means that the enemy in a corridor;

Do you know when you play de_cbble as T, and when you hear a crow, this means that the enemy is somewhere in the middle or on the terrace; Big Grin :-[

More Tips: Wallbangs and Corners

One of the things you should always do in any given situation is check corners! Sure, this may seem tedious at times, but once you do it often it'll come naturally. In a pub, everyone hides in the most annoying corners. You always have to check them. Even though after 5 rounds of checking, he was never there, he'll be there the one time you don't check it. Smile It happens too often.

Checking a corner doesn't make you invincible, the person can still shoot you! However, there is a way to check certain spots without getting seen. These are called wall-bangs. Wall-bangs are basically kills through a wall. These involve spamming your gun into certain areas called "spam spots." Spam spots allow you to check a spot, and maybe if you're lucky, get a kill and make someone mad. Tongue

Dust 2 Wall-Bangs

Long Door Spam Spot
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... _00003.jpg
Someone ALWAYS sits in that corner. Atleast 65.91% of the time, there is someone hiding in that corner. So what do you do? Spray through the door! Try to aim at different areas incase the guy anticipates where you're going to shoot Smile

B-Site Spam Spot
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... _00007.jpg
For some odd reason, CT's like to hide in that area. You can do a quick peek down mid as a Terrorist when you take B-site, but you will not see the person hiding in that corner. Therefore, normally, after seeing mid is clear, a terrorist will jump across and try to plant. However, that lonesome CT in the corner owns your face because you failed to check it. So what do you do? As said earlier, spray through the door.

A-Site Spam Spot
Alright, so you're a CT and bomb is planted A. You have an awp and you go through CT spawn and head to the bomb-site. You turn the corner and someone at the back of A-site instantly shoots your face. What do you do? Well, when you're at this area..
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... _00001.jpg
Then do a quick jump to check and see where the guy might be camping. People like to hide at that corner. Plus, he might be distracted in watching short A, which prevents your teammates to reinforce you in taking that bomb-site. When you find the person, don't go up the ramp and try to get him from behind. Aim with your awp through the wall and try and hit him Smile

The result?
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... _00002.jpg
A bullet that would've hit someone in the face Smile
(Sorry, I was alone doing these wall-bangs, just use your imagination)

Mid Awp Spam Spot
Awping as a CT in dust2 has the disadvantage already. However, when a T awper jumps down and hides in the bottom left corner with only 1/3's of their body showing, then the odds are worse, aren't they? Well the chances of you killing him through a peek through the gap between the doors will certainly be lower. However, your chances of killing him by doing this wall-bang is much, much higher! Smile
As a CT, start off by lining yourself up with this line
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... _00005.jpg You'll find it eventually Tongue
Then turn around, and try to find this exact spot on the door..
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... _00006.jpg
Do you see that little dark spot? Shoot at 3-4 times and you'll get these results
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z42 ... _00004.jpg
As I've said, use your imagination, that would've been a dead terrorist calling wall-hacks.

Notes:
**Do not waste your time putting in more than 4 shots in, as the chances are that the person moved or someone might be coming from mid, ready to ak your face.
** Remember that these spots work both ways, if you see a CT trying to pull off a wall bang on you in that exact spot, then aim at their bullet hole and hopefully you'll get them.
** Remember, as I said with the smokes, you might not always get these wall-bangs perfectly at the first time. Practice!

I took out nada in two shots. Smile

Okay, it's time for a Fun Tips Post.

Fun Tips

Making your crosshair purple
Purple in my opinion is the best color there is for a crosshair. It isn't too light that you can't see anything in dust2, but it also isn't too dark to look at dark spots like in nuke. Smile

commands:
cl_crosshaircolor 5
cl_crosshaircolor_b 220
cl_crosshaircolor_r 250
cl_crosshaircolor_g 0

Try this color out, if you like it and want it to be permanent, then go to your cfg folder and make a file called autoexec.cfg if there isn't already one and put these commands in. Smile

Lerp Commands

I'm not sure the exact definition of lerp, or what it is as a matter of fact, but I do know that the lower the lerp without being (orange?) the better!
lerp commands:

cl_allowdownload "0"
cl_allowupload "0"
cl_cmdrate "100"
cl_downloadfilter "no sounds"
cl_interp "0"
cl_interp_all "0"
cl_interp_npcs "0"
cl_interp_ratio "1"
cl_lagcompensation "1"
cl_pred_optimize "2"
cl_predictweapons "1"
cl_resend "6"
cl_smooth "0"
cl_smoothtime "0.01"
cl_timeout "9999999"
cl_updaterate "100"
rate "35000"

Save that into autoexec!

Ragdoll Physics
It sucks! Don't use it! There will always be times where someone's head/body will be blocked by a dead body! It's completely useless. Plus, unless you're really weird, you wouldn't enjoy seeing so much death around you. So do this command:
cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0

Weapon alignment
This tip will be extremely shady, I advise not many people to try it unless they're serious Smile Believe it or not, if you're right-handed, then a left weapon alignment would better suit you. I have no explanation for this, but I can assure you that it worked for me. The best explanation I got was that "if you're right handed, then you're generally right-eye dominant, so removing that annoying gun out of the right side of the screen will improve your reflexes."

I didn't agree, but I wanted to try it anyway. I had successful results with my deaging. It might be just my mind and the placebo effect, however it's unlikely.

The very first moments of having a left weapon alignment is really annoying. You will think things like "Wtf, guns aren't supposed to look like that." Or "Omg, guns aren't supposed to reload like that." After an hour or so of playing in a DM server, I got pretty used to it Smile

Try at your own risk!

My tip.  Download program called PowerStrip

http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm

Create a new color profile and change your monitor gamma to good brightness.  Over the years, source has become darker and darker with different lighting but they haven't allowed you to change mat_monitorgamma past 1.6.  This helps fix that problem.

lin3ar Wrote:I don't really know what to put, but my advice is to watch how the people who average 3+ kds on the server play.
You'll learn a lot from strategies and tactics.
As for aiming, that's something you have to improve yourself through playing.

Don't spec me, I have a 3 something kdr but i just run around spraying wildly.  It will not help you at all.

Random Tips

1Deaging Kids

So you've posted up by a corner expecting to 1deag kids as they run by. So this one guy passes right across the corner and you shoot, but you don't get the juandeag you were hoping for. Well, my problem was that I didn't know where to put my crosshair.

So you see your crosshair, it has those 4 lines. top, bottom, left, and right. Look at the top line. Now look at the bottom of the top line. No, not the bottom line. The bottom tip of the top line is where you need to be looking.

That point is where the first shots of a deagle will always go. Line that tip with the head-level and its a guaranteed 1deag, assuming your timing is correct.

Nade Combinations

Nade combinations are self-explanatory. There are the...

flash then throw another flash for increased blindness.
flash then throw a nade. (MOST EFFECTIVE) the flash disorients the enemy, making them less likely to be able to react to the nade.
nade then throw a flash because they expect the nadestacks to be over, but oh there goes another flash.

When to use a flash:

.When you're rushing into a site
.When the bomb is planted and you want to delay the CT's from getting to the site
.The beginning of the round, throw it in a spot where people rush at. (i.e. tunnels in d2.)
.When you know where someone is and you feel as if you have a slight disadvantage.
.To annoy someone/burn their corneas.

When to smoke:
.When you're about to rush into a site.
.When you're defusing in an open area.
.Hiding yourself
.To blind enemy snipers

When to use a grenade
.When you've damaged someone and run out of ammo
.At the start of the round, to stop a rush
.Suicide for whatever reason
.Late in the round, to kill damaged enemies.

Quickswitching With Grenades
Ever wondered how people throw grenades really fast? It's as if there were two people simultaneously throwing them. Right after the flash ends, a nade is flying across your screen and explodes.  In reality, it's really only one person.

How do they do it?

Well, they do it by quickswitching with grenades. Firstly, switch to your flashbang. Then from your flashbang, switch to your grenade. This makes it so that whenever you press q you alternate between your flashbang and grenade.

Flash then Nade Combination

If you bought 2 flashbangs and 1 grenade, the combination goes like this:
Switch to your flash, Press Mouse 1, Press Q (ONCE), Press Mouse 1
This will make it so that you throw your flash and then your nade immediately after.

However, if you bought 1 flashbang and 1 grenade, the combination is slightly altered.
Switch to your flash, Press Mouse 1, Press Q (TWICE), Press Mouse 1.
Because you only have one flash, you'll automatically switch to a different

Flash then Flash Combination
If you bought 2 flashbangs then you'll do the same combination as the previous.
Switch to your flash, Press Mouse 1, Press Q (TWICE), Press Mouse 1.

Scrim tips (Gonna be messy), but since we're starting more scrims.

Building a team:
You can take 5 pubstars and make a team. You'll do pretty good against most teams, but I don't believe it's a group that's going to win in league play. Keep in mind, essentially makes CS:S into nearly a new game filled with tactics, skill, and luck (Not so much on luck.)

The first thing you want is a designated strat caller. You want someone who has experience scrimming, knows the proper routes, locations, and kill zones, and is willing to make the calls for the team. This strat caller is the quarterback for the entire team, and you, as a player, need to follow their lead. Keep in mind, they aren't mind-readers, and without wall hacks, they aren't going to be able to call the perfect strategy every time. A truly successful team has players who can all call strats with relative ease, and are able to adapt to any situation.

Now, you're set to build your team, and yes, this is why professional gaming squads have team managers. You need to find players that are not only good, but also complement your play style. When you have two players that can essentially mind-read each other's actions, you're going to have a various dangerous weapon in your hands.

Having excellent players all around is great, but when they die, you're left without guidance, and without a strong force. You need to balance your team so that everyone works well together and can accept a loss. Accepting losses both maturely and without blame is crucial to the life of the team. If you're constantly having arguments within each other, it does affect you psychologically within the game, and can be a factor in your loss. Make sure your team is close.

When splitting the team into squads, especially for A & B defense, you want two players that work well together. Also keep in mind, that you want to pair better players with weaker players, so you don't have a strong holdout at B, while getting wrecked at A every round. This is no time for pride. Your score doesn't matter in a scrim, it's the final team score and how much you won by.

Bomb Planting:
1) Clear the bombsite completely, includes checking the obvious and random corners. I'm guilty of this as well, but it's an easy way to get an Ace. As soon as someone calls the site clear, I relax and let my guard down. I like clearing up to where you're going be hiding, but it's up to you.
2) Make sure everyone knows where the bomb is planted, if they try to ninja defuse, this will allow you shoot through the smoke and flashes to kill them.
3) Certain maps have places where you can "hide" the bomb, or make it really easy to defend. Make sure you announce this to your team.
I'm super lazy and I'll just link you to this website for bomb planting: http://whisper.ausgamers.com/wiki/index ... omb_Plants

Defending the bomb:
1) A good team will rush as a Team, and coordinate a quick but coordinated attack. These attacks typically include HE grenades, multiple flashes, and smokes. Be expecting this, and you can respond with your own to slow them down or to split them. Nade stack with your team, and play your positions. I suggest peeking not peeking, maybe once or twice to gather an orientation.
2) Remember, your jobs as a defender is simply to delay and stall the team from defusing the bomb. Don't die trying to kill one of their guys, let them come to you. You're a distraction, a delay, every second counts.
3) Watch the fake defuse, or a real defuse. It's tricky. Many players when faced 1 on 1 will attempt to fake defuse to draw people out to kill them. It's the right thing to pop out depending on time, but many players use it a ruse. However, this is not to say that they are not actually defusing... so take it as you will. Note, it takes 5 seconds to defuse with a defuse kit... so be careful.

Rotating to defuse the bomb:
You should hit the bombsite with force, pref. with your whole team. Situation really calls for tactical awareness, if you can escape, typically go for it, but if you can take out 2+ guys, but you're going to die. Die and take em out. Having even 1 extra person is a huge advantage to any gun fight.

Assaulting a defended position requires timing and team tactics, not unlike a real life assault. You're entering the location with minimal information and noise. Call where you see people especially if it's an assault from all sides. It depends on map, but general nadestack in, flashbangs out, and maybe a smoke (I personally hate that), but make sure your team is there with you and ready to rush.

Buying:
1) 1st Round: Reliant on what you're playing, and what strat you're going to be using on the map.
Example: Rushing T side. My old team liked to rush Short A on de_dust2. Lead buys flash, second buys deagle, third (bomb) saved, fourth had HE & Flash, fifth had smoke. First flashes and rushes, second attempts the 1 deag, third gets it down, and the fourth and fifth cover the rear advance. It's going to vary per round
Example: Camping CT side. For de_dust2, we did a 3-2, split. 3 B, 2 A. 1 person at each location buys a defuse kit. 1 person at each location also buys 2 flash bangs. That way, there's a defuse kit on each bombsite that you can pickup, Bombsite A flashbangs are for delay, while bombsite B flashbangs are for transition to A.

2nd Round: Generally, I like if you win, you get MP5's/Deagle/Nade. Not all of em, especially since 3rd's typically the eco round. It gives you an advantage over the stock guns, and you have enough power to take out 2-3 in a direct bum rush.
3rd Round: Eco
4th Round: Rifles/AWP

The best advice to give is to actively talk to your team. When you're dropping a gun the next round, make sure you let your teammates know so they might not have to buy the next round. If you have money, buy for your team. Make sure you don't run too many AWP's, and that each site has a weapon set that's effective to defend. When attacking, make sure you know whose throwing grenades where. Nothing's worse than getting hit by your own flashbang, smoke or grenade simply through a miscommunication.

If you have an MP5 and you're going to buy a M4/AK/AWP the next round, and none of your teammates need a weapon, drop the weapon before the next round begins. This prevents the other team from picking up your gun.

Buying, surprisingly, is highly scientific and it's a game within itself. In closer, more competitive games, it'll come down to not only how you shot them, but with what gun did you shoot them with. Make sure you play your strengths, and your team knows the strengths of each individual player. Your strat caller can also be the one who will call for a buy round and/or an eco round.

---
---
----

Which brings us to Teamspeak. Teamspeak is a wonderful utility that is highly useful when scrimming any team. The main benefit of Teamspeak is that it allows you to talk with your team when you're dead. Therefore, everyone should at least be on Teamspeak and bonus points if you have a mic. Voice communications are so much faster than anything you can do.

Teamspeak allows a team to coordinate a attack strat (T-side) with relative ease and without too much of a miscommunication. The strat caller should be the only one speaking at the beginning of the round, except for those who are asking if anyone needs weapons. Do not deviate from the plan without good reason. The strat caller is essentially the quarterback for your team and chances are, the little push that you just did is going to end up getting the entire team killed.

Teamspeak also allows you to coordinate the defense (CT-side). Call your positions, and call your locations. One of the largest problems is the fact that people do call the fake and say BOMB B, when in fact it's a fake. Don't call BOMB, until you actually see Bomb, or you can see bomb dropped on the radar. Instead, what you should do is call, 1 B, or Flash & Smoke Mid. It is OK to rotate if there's 3 Terrorists going to a 2 defense bombsite, but make sure you leave that one guy at the other site in case it's a split.

The first you should do when you die (when you die alone or with a partner) is to state where you died from, and if it's a simply where you got picked or naded, declare what you got hit from. I also personally like it when people call the number of players. Always do your team first, so it'll be 2 (Your team) - 4 (Their team), just so your team knows how many players the other team has. Now, you can't slack off since you're dead, play your team's screens, listen for footsteps. Chances are you might be able to give your teammate the headsup on a flank of some sort. I also like to cycle through players to gain kind of a tactical commander outlook on the situtation.

Does somebody want to do the money rewards?
Aka
Money received from planting bomb and bomb exploding:
Money received from planting bomb and killing all CT's before bomb exploding:

So on and so forth. I don't remember them.

Probably crappy so far, been bouncing and writing this while doing work work, so yea. Disclaimer: It's what got me through leagues, everyone does it differently. Adjust plans to fit your team's style of play. More to come later.
