Thats where backup/recovery programs that recover to dissimilar hardware come into play... also thats where dropbox + portable apps come into play. I have maybe 4 or 5 programs that are actually installed on my machine. GIMP, Firefox, Chrome, Sumatra, uTorrent, OpenOffice etc... all reside in my dropbox and NEVER have to be backed up, reinstalled, and they leave no traces on ur comp when u delete them.
