RaveTheGo[SAS Wrote:This topic is for what the title says, Network//Latency Fixing//Trouble shooting for Starcraft, taken from: http://clana14.freeforums.org/network-in...t-t60.html
The most basic things to do to reduce lag i will list now, in order from easiest, to hardest to accomplish
(NOTE: These steps are used with Windows XP, I will update Windows Vista (and Maybe Windows 7) version later, upon request)
I.These First 3 Things any novice windows user can Do.
1#
A)Right Click on Start
B)Hit Explore
C)Go to My Computer->Program Files->Starcraft->
D)Select bncache.dat and press Delete
E)Do this periodically, about 1 time per week
2#
A)Hit Start
B)Hit Run
C)Type: 'regedit' without the quotes
D)In the window that pops-up Follow This Path: My Computer->Hkey_Local_Machine->Software
E) Select Battle.net (NOT STARCRAFT THAT WILL MAKE IT VERY BAD) and hit delete
3#
A)Hit Start
B)Move the mouse over Settings
C)Click Control Panel
D)Scroll Down To The Bottom of the list and Double-Click Windows Firewall
E)Select the Exceptions Tab
F)Hit Add Port...
G)Choose a name for the port (e.g.SCPort01)
H)Type in Port Number 6112 and choose UDP
I)Hit Ok
J)Repeat Steps F,G,and H, but use TCP Instead of Udp, and Choose a Different Port Name (e.g.SCPort02)
II.More advanced, less step-by-step instructions
1#
A)Open your web browser
B)Type In Your Ip Address
1.To Find Your Ip Address Hit Run, Type 'cmd' and type 'ipconfig' Your Ip Address will be there, Next to IP Address (there are 2 of them, but choose the one with 4 numbers 1-255 with dots inbeetween then, (e.g. 192.168.1.1)
C)Hit enter and if prompted for a password, ask your netwoek administrator (if you are your own administrator and you haven't chosen a password, try Name: Admin Password: Admin, if this dosent work, google: " [name of your router] default password)
D) Find Port Opening
E)Type in ports 6112 (TCP and UDP and set them to open, NOTE: with some models, you have to open this for just one computer, assign it to the computer you play Starcraft on's IP and maybe use IP designation to save that password for your computer
I don't know as much about Port forwarding as i used to, so go to http://PortForward.com and find your router type, make, and model, it will walk you through it, (For the lazy, you can buy a program off of http://PortForward.com that will do the port forwarding process for you)
I Hope that Was Helpful
Thanks to Speak for reminding me that people are stupid
