So yeah, my laptop is lagging so bad and I dont know what it is. So i need help restoring it because I'm not gonna spend $100+ doing it, someone please help me out?

also most laptops have a recovery partition you have to boot into. some require that you made CDs when you first got your computer, others dont. to get to the recovery partition youre going to have to press a function key on bootup... which function key depends on your make and model.

i dont bother with any of this because laptops usually come with a ton of bloatware that  i dont want to deal with, so i just use my windows 7 cd i bought when i built my desktop and use the windows key that came with my laptop to activate it, and then install all the necessary drivers (windows usually does a pretty good job with this part). then voila! i have a super bloatfree and clean laptop. only thing i have to uninstall is internet explorer.

oh and i cant do the recovery partition anyways because i installed an SSD into my laptop.

I tried to back up and restore but the last date came in was yesterday O_o

Well my laptop was having the same problem....i use to get max 40 fps but now 100....thanks to naive as i read his post about cleaning the laptop from inside.

he said his last restore point was just yesterday. from being in tech support, i notice that windows' restore feature is notoriously unreliable. previous restore points were probably somehow corrupted.

i would say just backup all your data (music, movies, bookmarks, email files), make note of all the programs and settings you use, and then recover your laptop to factory. then immediately reinstall all your programs and settings, migrate your data, and run all windows updates. now that you have your comp in an ideal and pristine state, make a backup of your system reserved and C partition/disk. i would recommend EaseUS todo's free backup program which is pretty powerful and easy to use, considering. plus it has a perfect track record with my less computer savvy clients, who i always recommend it to.

the reason i recommend such a drastic measure is because you dont know what the problems is, and considering your technical level and the fact you dont want to spend money for a tech to look at it, it may be too much of a headache to track the problem down. plus, this way you will always have a backup copy of your machine in a pristine state, and youll never have to do this much work again if windows needs to be reinstalled in the future.

if you dont want to do that much work right off the bat, i would have you run a full and thorough virus scan of your C partition. if you dont have virus software, use Avira's free offering. after that, also run malwarebytes which is also free.

oh yea, also make sure its not getting too hot. laptops are notorious for getting clogged with dust bunnies.

It's worthy trying to physically clean the dust out, but if you want to replace windows..

The way I do it is start with a windows OEM ISO from TPB.
I believe these ones will have their hashes match an original OEM disk (no virii, unless microsoft put it there, also uncracked to start)

If you have an external drive, backup everything important (movies/music/docs/porn/etc). You may want to back up your windows serial key also.

There are driver backup tools, I don't personally use them. I normally just grab updated drivers from the manufacturers website when I do a fresh install. It's better to get at least your network drivers (so you can download the rest of the drivers once the machine is up if they aren't detected) throw them on the USB drive ahead of time then after you do a fresh install go to Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Device manager and select each unknown device, and then locate a fresh driver from your manufacturers web page for each one windows 7 does not automatically detect. You will want to get the newest video card drivers even if windows does detect yours.

Put the disk or usb drive in, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from it. I like to format and partition my whole drive and trash backup partitions (I don't use em) and repartition into one big drive to recover space (if not dual booting).

Once you are installed if you are using a version of windows you don't legitimately own, I've found daz loader to be a great activator/genuine advantage bypass. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/thread ... nformation

Then run windows update and let it patch your system with the newest software, pull your backups back from the external, throw whatever else you need on (CS:S) and you're done. It's a pretty straightforward process, I taught my artist girlfriend to do it, so you should be able to figure it out.

Unfortunately, I can't remote connect to ur computer to do this. lol but I can walk you through the steps to get it accomplished. Ive done this over a thousands of times. In fact, I can also give you some info regrading upgrading your laptop instead of buying a new one...Honestly, What I saw yesterday, Your laptop is in pretty good shape. It just needs to be tweaked a little. some services needs to be stopped. startup programs can be disabled and so on. remove the viruses we saw together. lol Stuff like that would help you out too and you dont need a fresh install, but a fresh install does help in some instances but a lot of work is involved and if you dont have the "know how" I would suggest you have some1 do it for you.
