general server questions
#1
I am about to close on my very first house, and something i have been wanting is my own server/network. Here is a list of some stuff i would like to have with this(in no order of importance).

1. 24/7 uptime, so auto restart and such would be needed.
2. I would like to be able to access it by remote.
3. powerful enough to host maybe like a CS:S or a minecraft server
4. maybe host a small website like a blog or something fairly low traffic.
5. be able to put movies and such on it and access them from other computers in the house.
6. have the security to store valuable information on it like tax records, family pictures and movies.

I think you get the idea. So i have built my own computers before but never a server. So i do not know how good of a server is needed.
I would like suggestions with a newegg wishlist or even a pre-built server, Software, security options.

Thanks for all the help!

Any computer can go 24/7. The things that usually give out first are the fans and harddrives so some sort of RAID is a must. I assume you will also be keeping this in a home environment so a case with good dust filters is also something you should put on your list, as to reduce downtime from cleaning out your CPU heatsink or underclocking from overheating.

Have a budget and build to what it allows.
