The idea is you spend the shortest time possible on the ground whilst maintaining the maximum speed aquired by the velocity gained through air travel. The only way you could do it was if you could transfer the inertia gained by a downward force (gravity as you fall from your jump) into a forward motion.

Either that or get springs on your shoes?
